Civil Engineering Summer Intern - 2024

McInnis Engineering has an opening for a Civil Engineering Intern-Summer 2024 in Tacoma. Our goal is to become the go-to civil engineering and land planning firm in the South Puget Sound. We plan to do this by developing a professional, fun, community-minded culture and delivering excellent work. We welcome ideas from within the company to leverage technology and streamline processes. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2024 or later.

The internship would start at the end of May or early June and run through August. Individual start dates may be flexible, and there is a possibility to extend the internship through the school year. The work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm.

The successful candidate will be community-minded and excellent at learning new things. A base level knowledge using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other design applications is preferred.

At McInnis Engineering an intern will support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal of developing technical and social skills. They will assist with project research, and preliminary design calculations, and support construction administration tasks and site visits. The intern will also perform additional responsibilities as required by the business needs and training.

On a day-to-day basis, the job responsibilities will include working with project managers, engineers, and other team members to develop plans and reports, working with local jurisdictions on plan requirements and permitting requirements, and working with team members and other disciplines to provide excellent design that meets client needs and applicable regulations.

Civil Engineering Technician

McInnis Engineering has an immediate opening for a civil engineering technician in Tacoma. The successful candidate will be community-minded and excellent at using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other design applications. A knowledge of how to efficiently compile project plan sets in conformance with local requirements is a must. The ability to compile drawing sets in support of project feasibility studies and planning projects a strong preference.

On a day-to-day basis, the job responsibilities will include working with project managers, engineers, and other team members to develop plans and reports, working with local jurisdictions on plan requirements and permitting requirements, and working with team members and other disciplines to provide excellent design that meets client needs and applicable regulations.

Salary is above average and includes regular salary reviews and a bonus program. Benefits are also excellent and include:

Project Manager/Sr. Project Engineer

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in the civil engineering and land-planning business in the local area. Knowledge of other parts of the design business is a plus. The job responsibilities will include working with project clients and owners to conceptualize projects that meet their goals, coordinating entitlement and design work with clients, owners, and other team members on early-stage projects, developing and managing project budgets, working with local agencies as projects develop and are entitled and ultimately permitted, training junior staff in the skills required to produce successful projects and succeed in the business.

We are seeking a candidate with: knowledge of projects and design firms in the local area, knowledge of project procedures in South Sound jurisdictions, the ability to communicate effectively with clients, owners, and team members, understanding of project design requirements and procedures, the ability to teach younger staff, and the ability to deliver projects on time and on budget. While a professional license is a strong preference, it is not a requirement.
